(Toronto, February 24, 2026) Due to recent violence in Mexico, some flights in and out of the Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Manzanillo have been cancelled. While some flights will resume today, travellers may face disruptions.
According to the Government of Canada, Canadians currently in Mexico are being advised to exercise a high degree of caution. Travel advisories could change regularly. Also, consider registering your trip so the Canadian government can keep you informed while abroad.
Federal Air Passenger Protection Regulations require that airlines provide passengers with either a refund or rebooking, at the passenger's choice, when there is a flight cancellation, or a lengthy delay, due to a situation outside the airline’s control that prevents it from ensuring that passengers complete their itinerary within a reasonable time. They apply to all flights to, from and within Canada, including connecting flights.
Consumers should contact their airline first with any questions about flight delays and cancellations and for help with available solutions. Consumers should always follow the guidance issued by the federal government.
Consumers are encouraged to contact their insurance company with questions about their travel insurance coverage. If you have purchased travel insurance (such as trip cancellation or trip interruption) please review your policy to see if the benefits provided cover losses that are not covered by the airline or other travel suppliers. Consumers are likely to experience a higher than average wait time as insurers anticipate an increase in call volume.
If you purchased medical insurance, contact your insurer to extend coverage if your stay in Mexico will extend beyond your planned return date.
