(Montreal, October 30, 2025) The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) has partnered with the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) on an initiative to provide physicians in Quebec a turnkey training program for short- and long-term disability management.

This training program provides participating physicians with practical tools to navigate private health insurers’ administrative procedures more easily, resulting in more effective patient support and reduced processing times for patients with disability coverage through private insurers operating in Quebec.

The training program covers:

  • the concepts of incapacity and disability at work;
  • the patient's functional limitations;
  • the return to work and reintegration of the patient;
  • completion of the insurance form;
  • the roles of the various stakeholders involved in the patient's recovery.

This initiative also aims to create an open dialogue between the different physicians and insurers involved in the disability claims process to reduce administrative barriers, improve the transparency of the process, and speed up the claims process.

“The CLHIA is determined to improve transparency about the disability claims process between physicians and insurers and help physicians to provide insurers the right amount of information to accurately assess a claim,” said Sheila Burns, CLHIA’s Director, Health and Disability Policy.

Physicians who are regional training managers with a membership with the FMOQ, who are interested in organizing a training session, can consult the page about Formations validées - Clés en main (Approved courses—ready to go), available in French only, on the FMOQ website for additional information.

The CLHIA hopes to expand this training program to other provinces as part of the association’s efforts to continue to reduce the administrative burden on Canada’s physicians when handling disability claims.
