The Position:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Statistical Services, the Statistical Services Analyst is responsible for collecting and reporting industry statistics on the life and health insurance industry to support CLHIA advocacy initiatives.

What you will be working on:
  • Managing and enhancing various industry surveys and analytical solutions to support CLHIA’s policy and advocacy objectives for the Canadian life and health insurance industry
  • Extracting, manipulating, and cleansing of raw data received through surveys and other sources
  • Liaising with stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve issues regarding data quality and completeness
  • Contributing to the maintenance and development of the CLHIA’s SQL database: manage corporate profiles, data imports and mapping routines to ensure data integrity, as well as improving processes
  • Developing visualisations, dashboards, and presentations to effectively communicate statistical results as well as industry trends and patterns
  • Managing ad hoc requests for data analysis from CLHIA staff and web inquiries, supporting projects and initiatives. This may include identifying data sources, designing surveys, coordinating data collection, running queries, preparing analyses/reports, and providing interpretation of statistics/results
  • Monitoring the release of statistical data and industry reports on the life and health insurance industry from external sources


What you will bring:
  • University Degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Finance or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of relevant statistical/financial analysis experience; experience in financial services, and/or the life and health insurance industry an asset (including co-op terms)
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat), with high proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel; comfortable working with very large datasets and complex spreadsheets
  • Database applications/reporting experience (e.g. SQL Management Studio and SQL Reporting Services, or equivalent)
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI or Tableau) is an asset
  • Strong research, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Organization, project, and time management skills to handle multiple projects, including those with tight timelines and changing priorities
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to effectively build relationships and work collaboratively with individuals at all levels within and outside the CLHIA
  • Bilingualism (English & French) an asset
