The Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Market Conduct Policy and Regulation you will contribute to serving the life and health insurance industry's collective interests by optimizing the policy, legislation and regulatory environment that affects the industry from a distribution and market conduct perspective.

What you will be working on:
- Developing and building consensus on industry policy positions by leading member company committees and working groups and providing advice and technical expertise to optimize the policy, legislative and regulatory environment.
- Preparing submissions and briefings to advance the industry's interests with regulators and other stakeholders; developing responses, in collaboration with members, to public consultations pertaining to new/amended legislation or regulations.
- Supporting the advocacy for the industry’s public policy positions through active engagement and policy management with member companies, the CLHIA, and regulators. Developing key messages and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Making representations to the governmental and/or regulatory bodies to advance the industry’s positions.
- Providing support to plan relevant conferences and other education programs.
- Maintaining an in-depth understanding of the legislative and regulatory environments related to the department.
- Monitoring how member companies’ and advisors’ practices affect the distribution of the industry's products.
What you will bring:
- University degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, or Law.
- 7-10 years of related insurance experience including:
- knowledge of insurance distribution practices and channels,
- knowledge of political and regulatory environments, and
- knowledge of market conduct issues in the life and health insurance industry.
- Research experience in legislative and regulatory matters, and policy issues.
- Strategic thinking and political acumen.
The following are considered assets:
- Knowledge of individual variable insurance contracts and segregated funds.
- Experience with member-based organizations.
- Experience participating in and supporting committees/working groups.
- Experience planning programs for events/conferences.
- Bilingual (English/French) or ability to read and speak some French.
