CLHIA welcomes introduction of federal privacy legislation

Release Date: 06/20/2022 Staff Reference: Stephen Frank(Toronto, June 20, 2022) – Stephen Frank, President and CEO of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association issued the following statement on the federal government’s introduction of Bill C-27, the Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022.
“We welcome this update to Canada’s privacy laws - the first substantial change in over 20 years – and congratulate the government for the introduction of this bill.
Our industry and others have been encouraging modernization. Strong and modern privacy legislation is critical for public confidence, and to enable innovations and adaptations to technology that can better protect personal information.
We look forward to reviewing this legislation in detail and working with the government to advance changes that can promote modern and consistent privacy protections for Canadians.
We believe that finalizing and passing this legislation must be a top priority for parliamentarians when parliament resumes in the fall.”
