Statement on federal support for public drug plans in Prince Edward Island

Stephen Frank, President and CEO of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association issued the following statement on the joint announcement between the governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island:

“Canada’s life and health insurers welcome this initiative by the governments of PEI and Canada to enhance coverage for people who access medication through public plans in PEI. We support collaborative initiatives by governments to help those who don’t currently have coverage through private or public drug insurance plans.

Right now, even through the pandemic, over 26 million Canadians continue to have access to prescription drugs and other health supports through workplace plans and individual insurance.

We look forward to working together with governments to develop a framework that improves access for all Canadians, ensure a standard level of coverage across the country, and helps public and private drug plans to remain sustainable.”
