Health insurers take measures to continue coverage for those displaced by wildfires

News Release

Release Date: 07/25/2024
Staff Reference: Information

There are hundreds of wildfires burning in Western Canada and it is possible that fires could also occur in other areas of the country over the summer. Many residents are being evacuated from their homes.

As a result of the wildfires, we know that Canadians will once again be experiencing evacuations and loss. Some may lose or leave behind their health insurance information or items such as prescription drugs and eyeglasses.

Many health insurers have put in place special measures for health plan members who have to leave their homes and businesses due to the fires. If you have questions about your group health coverage or need your plan information to replace prescription drugs or other medical items, please contact your insurer. You can find email and phone information for your insurer here: https://www.olhi.ca/for-insurers/member-list/

Up-to-date information concerning the fires and health related questions will be available on government websites of the impacted provinces and territories.
