The Position:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Controller, the General Accountant will be responsible to oversee elements of both financial and management reporting. The General Accountant’s responsibilities include supporting the month-end closing process (including preparation of journal entries and vouchers), financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting (including for conferences) and external audits.

What you will be working on:
- Assisting in the compliance of accounting policies and processes including preparation and entry of journal entries, supporting month-end activities, completing necessary checks and account reconciliations including tracking of capital assets.
- Performing cash receipt functions and developing, implementing, and maintaining appropriate accounting and internal controls for all activities.
- Assisting in the provision of monthly financial reporting to cost centre owners and analyzing any significant variances.
- Provisioning of analytical support for financial budgeting and forecasting processes including preparation of content for various committees. Tracking and following-up on key planning assumptions with cost centre managers to help ongoing monitoring of risks/opportunities.
- Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and forecast process for conferences. Compiling reporting of actual performance against budget. Coordinating central invoicing system for sponsors and exhibitors; liaising with department administration to track, process, and resolve issues.
- Providing invoicing and billing services for membership fees including preparation of invoices with appropriate database records for fees, premiums and web posting.
- Planning, preparing of working paper files and execution of financial statements for various audits, review, and compilation engagements. Assisting external auditors with various requests as needed.
- Filing timely information for tax returns (including T2 Corporate Tax Return, and Federal and Revenue Quebec NPO T1044 information returns, quarterly GST/HST Returns) and sales tax recoveries. Assisting in the compliance of accounting policies and processes including preparation and entry of journal entries, month end activities and provision of financial statements for affiliated organizations as per service agreements.
What you will bring:
- A university degree in a related discipline and two (2) to five (5) years professional experience in Finance/Accounting roles, with strong working knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to demonstrate the highest level of ethics, personal integrity and confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Superb computer skills with advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Excel.
- Adept at researching, investigating, and analyzing numerical information in order to project financial outcomes.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Commitment to excellent client service and satisfaction.
- Strong multi-tasking skills with ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Actively working towards obtaining the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, an asset.
- Working knowledge of French would be an asset.
