The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc. (CLHIA) appreciates the opportunity to provide comments on Health Canada’s Consultation on proposed amendments to the Patented Medicines Regulations.
The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) established in 1894, is a voluntary trade association that represents the collective interests of its member life and health insurance companies. The Association’s membership accounts for 99 percent of the life and health insurance in force in Canada. The industry provides a wide range of supplementary health insurance products and services to 24 million Canadians. In 2015, insurers paid approx. $32 billion in supplementary health benefits, including $10.7 billion in prescription drugs.
The CLHIA supports Health Canada’s leadership in reviewing and recommending changes to the Patented Medicines Regulations to assist in reducing the high cost of prescription drugs in Canada while continuing to incent innovation to ensure that Canadians have access to affordable and necessary medications...
