On behalf of the Canadian life and health insurance industry, we are responding to your request for stakeholder input into an external review of the eight pan-Canadian Health Organizations (pCHOs). The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) is a voluntary association with member companies which account for 99 per cent of Canada’s life and health insurance business. For calendar year 2016, the life and health insurance industry made payments of about $32.5 billion on health services for 25 million individuals covered by private plans. These plans help ensure Canadians have access to needed health care.

This submission will provide information on each pCHO separately and then will close by presenting more global comments.
