Membership in the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) is open to any life or health
insurance company licensed to do business in Canada or any insurance-related organization which the
Board of Directors deems appropriate.
CLHIA is a voluntary trade association that represents the collective interests of its member life and
health insurers, which account for 99 per cent of the life and health insurance business in Canada, and
offer a wide range of financial products including, life and health insurance, pension, RRSPs and annuities.
CLHIA members, through their participation in and support of the Association’s activities, are able to
influence vital aspects of the business environment in which life and health insurers operate including,
federal and provincial legislative and regulatory requirements, distribution and taxation.
CLHIA forums enable industry representatives the opportunity to keep in touch with best practices and
current developments in such areas as agent licensing, company and policyholder taxation,
financial reporting, group insurance, claims, health care reform, and a wide variety of legislative
and regulatory issues. Valuable networking opportunities are afforded to company personnel from a wide
variety of functions and levels of responsibility.
