George Mohacsi, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Independent Order of Foresters, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc. (CLHIA). Mr. Mohacsi is currently the Chair of the Board's Standing Committee on Government Relations (2010-2011) and previously served as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Standards and Marketplace Relations (2009-2010).
Mr. Mohacsi has more than 20 years of senior management experience in the life insurance industry. He has served as President and CEO of Foresters for the past six years. During this period, he has led the organization through significant positive transformational change. He joined Foresters in 2002 as Senior Vice President of Operations and Technology and subsequently added responsibility for the marketing of Foresters products and services prior to assuming his present position in 2005.
Mr. Mohacsi is a graduate of the University of Toronto. He is also a member of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Board of Governors and a Board member of Hope Air, a Toronto-based charity. He has served on the Board of Directors of LL Global, Inc., the management company for Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and Life Insurance and Market Research Association (LIMRA).
Established in 1894, the CLHIA is a voluntary association whose member companies account for 99 per cent of Canada’s life and health insurance business. The industry provides a wide range of financial security products such as life insurance, annuities (including RRSPs, RRIFs and pensions) and supplementary health insurance to about 26 million Canadians. It also holds $514 billion of assets in Canada and employs almost 135,000 Canadians.
